School Scholarship
Every second child in Kenya cannot go to secondary school because of the high school fees.
But without education, an independent future perspective for young people as well as for the country is unthinkable. We know this from personal experience: founder and CEO Philip Oprong Spenner grew up as a street child in Kenya. Today, Philip Spenner is a successful teacher at a school in Hamburg, Germany. A unique life story that would have been impossible without education.

Our Goal:
Together with Kanduyi Children e.V. (the German partner organisation) BHF aims at giving Children a normal enjoyable Secondary School education by covering the cost of tuition, school uniforms, special dietary requirements, medical requirements and learning material. Additionally, the employees of BHF keep regular contact with all beneficiaries to ensure their emotional needs are met and that everyone feels supported as best as possible.

In addition to the school fees and other fees required by the school, the sponsorship includes the following benefits:
Empowerment & Workshops
The staff members are in close contact with the beneficiaries. Counselling, mental support for family or personal problems and empowerment are at the forefront of this exchange. Workshops are held regularly with all BHF beneficiaries, focusing on strengthening the students' self-confidence, motivation and mental health. Play, fun and exchange with peers as well as with role models who have come a long way despite difficult personal circumstances are also not neglected.
Equipment for everyday school life:
- School uniform
- Pocket money on a termly basis
- Shopping kit, Solar Lamps, Transport costs (for particularly needy students)
- Hygiene products
Requirements:
Those interested in the BHF Sponsorship Programme must apply (see FAQ Application). The following requirements must be met in order to apply:
- Financial and social need: School fees cannot be covered by the family without external support.This is verified by our staff.
- Good performance: Over 270 points in the KCPE
Beneficiaries will be randomly selected from all applicants who meet the requirements. No entitlement to support from BHF exists.
